Review of Pokki the web application desktop app

I recently just returned from the Future Of Web Apps conference (FOWA) in Las Vegas and was introduced to a few new web applications that launched at the conference. I am currently drafting a post or two about the conference as it was pretty freaking spectacular.
Among the sponsors was a company launching their new product. That product is called Pokki. From the way I have heard it pronounced at the conferenced it sounds like “poke-ee” and applications for Pokki are referred to as “pokkies”. Essentially it’s a simple installer that gives you access to Pokki’s application repository, or as they refer to it “the app store” even though I don’t think anything they have released costs money. I suppose that could change in the future but the initial offerings of applications are just a simple click away.
Supported operating systems:

Currently the only operating system that is supported for this application is Windows 7. Pokki is working to release versions of it’s applicaiton for OSX as well as previous versions of Windows. The “pokkies” are built in a combination of HTML5, CSS3 and JavaScript. This is a pretty cool way to build that applications and provides a lot of flexibility for developers. So far I have only been running the Facebook, Gmail and Twitter applications. I’ve only been using Pokki for a couple of days as it was just officially released in the last few days, but so far I have found the interface incredibly fast and elegant.
Below is a video demonstration of the installation of the Pokki application, along with installing a couple of different pokkies for review. They are currently trying to attract developers to build new pokkies for their app store.

To me it boils down to that this doesn’t seem to offer anything over using Titanium except a lot of restrictions. Titanium gets you a webkit browser in a box, awesome APIs, and transparent backgrounds for some crazy desktop action. Now as soon as they get the new Webkit on Windows and launch 1.2…
Thanks for dropping in Brandon. I can most definitely support your take on it. We shall see what Pokki does and what other applications are built on HTML5\CSS. It’s pretty slick but I am a huge fan Titanium.
