Netflix dumps Qwikster

So what’s the deal with Netflix?

Netflix drops Qwikster

So when Netflix decided to a streaming only service and the “DVD” portion would switch over to “Qwikster” I thought to myself, “ok, who cares”? Apparently there was a lot of “caring” going on to the point where Netflix has decided to can the whole idea. They also changed their pricing sheme and according to the email I received from Netflix just moments ago, they do not plan to change the pricing plans again. We will see about that. Below is a screenshot of the email they sent to me.

Where Have You Been?

So uhm… Josh, what’s up man, where you been?

So I haven’t been posting as often on my site as I would like. There are a couple reasons for that and I’m excited to tell you about them. So over the past few months I’ve had a burning passion to write a blog series on “how to start a blog or website” from beginning to end. I was not sure if I wanted to stand up a separate property or do it here.

“sleep is a symptom of caffeine deprivation…” –unknown

Yeah, the above quote just makes me smile for some reason because it has been all to true for me for the month of January. Things at work became overwhelmingly busy, which is a great thing, but bad in the sense it has taken “blogging” time away. However, it has given me plenty of time to think, plan, and lastly I am now in the execution phase.

John Stewart weighs in on possible Facebook IPO

Seems like John has some hostile feelings towards Mark Zuckerbergs feelings on going public. Transparency isn’t something Zuckerberg as keen on and John doesn’t miss the opportunity to return fire with all sorts of heated commentary. Since Goldman Sachs’ investment into the social giant it has raised a target for suspicion and satire. If you find this interesting check out my take on the Social Network.

DuroCast launches online radio service

DuroCast Launches

DuroCast was launched this week. I’ve had the lucky fortune of using it since the Private Beta since early this year and have been really enjoying it. DuroCast finally launched and it appears is now open to all. The idea of the website is being able to listen to any radio station that is broadcasting over the airwaves or online though their platform. It’s a really slick idea because on your Dashboard you can create presets just like you would on a car stereo.

Once you have logged in you can search for a radio station by the call-sign, city, state or whatever you can conjure up to use as a search term. Once you find the station just add it as a preset. This is pretty cool because you can setup preset for stations that are in different states and have them all conveniently on one dashboard.  There are about 5 stations I listen to on a regular basis and in the past had to login to each respective website, manage tabs and what not. DuroCast makes it so simple now to keep up with my favorite stations without the hassle.

Google ‘real-time’ search

Google real-time search

Google 'real-time' search

Google is testing out a new real-time search engine which provides more “real-time” search results. Ths search engine scours the web monitoring tweets and other relevant keyword information and provides it to you in a scrolling update on the search query.

So far I’ve been using it for things like sports scores, monitoring trending topics and such, but part of me scratches my head and thinks, “why not just use http://search.twitter.com” instead of using google’s real time search?

For fun I went ahead and kicked off a search for “Seth Godin” since I knew he just posted an article this morning that I enjoyed titled “your famous” and I wanted to see if it had started indexing yet.

Below are the twitter search results for my query.

Google: Don’t Be Evil

Hi,

According to news reports, Google is about to cut a deal with Verizon that would end the Internet as we know it by allowing giant corporations to control what websites are load quickly and easily on the Internet and dump everyone else onto an Internet slow lane.

I signed a petition urging Google to kill the deal with Verizon. Can you join me at the link below?
